Cookies — small data packets that were supposed to improve your online experience. Originally a great idea that made browsing more convenient. But as so often happens, the technology was exploited: especially the advertising industry misused cookies to track users across the web and deliver targeted ads. It escalated to the point where cookies practically became a synonym for surveillance.
Fortunately, the problem didn’t go unnoticed. Browser makers, extension developers, and lawmakers stepped in to curb these practices — giving users a bit more control and privacy online.
On this site, I don’t use any cookies at all. That may disappoint the Cookie Monster, but it’s certainly good news for anyone who prefers not to share their data.
